The 25 km-long Souffel river rises at an altitude of 215 m in the commune of Kuttolsheim and flows eastwards into the Ill near Strasbourg. Originally, this winding river meandered through a damp valley floor that was regularly flooded. Post-war agricultural development overcame the river's natural meanderings, and from the 19th century onwards, dams and a canal were built, which later became the bed of the Souffel. By transforming it into a straight waterway in places, this work had the effect - among other things - of impoverishing the flora and fauna around the Souffel. Today, aware of the need to protect the environments associated with this river, the local authorities concerned have embarked on a program to restore and renaturalize the Souffel, aimed in particular at reconstituting functional natural environments.
Help Marwann, Adèle and their parents to discover the names of the various natural areas with multiple ecological functions that are being restored along the Souffel!
