The Kochersberg by bike: a new way to experience the region

Get on your bike this summer and discover the Kochersberg in a whole new way. Thanks to ambitious development projects, enchanting hilly landscapes and a real political will, cycling is now a matter of course. Claudine Huckert, vice-president of the Communauté de Communes in charge of regional development, explains why.

    1. An ambitious cycling policy in the heart of Kochersberg

Since 2020, the Communauté de Communes du Kochersberg has made cycling a priority. “ It’s high time the Kochersberg started cycling, and that we offered cycle routes as an alternative to the car, as well as leisure facilities,” says Claudine Huckert, who is also mayor of Willgotheim.

This shift towards soft mobility has resulted in a substantial investment plan: €11 million devoted to the construction of cycle routes. The aim? To provide 60 kilometres of safe links by the end of the programme. To date, 22 km are already accessible, and a further 24 km are under study.

    1. An area made for cycling

Why is the Kochersberg so well suited to cycling? Firstly, because the area is so densely populated. All the villages are very close together: schools, shops, services… everyday journeys can be made by bike “, explains Claudine Huckert. But that’s not all: the gentle terrain and open vistas also make it an ideal destination for weekend outings.

And if you’re a little nervous about cycling, Claudine Huckert has a solution for you: ” I myself have rediscovered cycling thanks to the electric bike, which really makes it easier to get around our somewhat hilly region

    1. Infrastructure, but also services

The development of cycling in Kochersberg is not limited to the cycle paths. The local authority has also set up practical services for residents and visitors, starting with the Vélo’k hire service: electrically-assisted bicycles available from the Tourist Office. “And the prices are unbeatable,” she adds enthusiastically.

Another flagship initiative is the introduction of cycling lessons in CM1, with 10 hours of traffic training given each year. It’s a great way of teaching tomorrow’s citizens about environmentally-friendly mobility from an early age.

    1. Cycling, another way to discover Kochersberg

Cycling through the Kochersberg is also a way of immersing yourself in the heart of the villages. ” Thanks to the bike, you can get lost in the maze of villages and visit the very heart of them, something you’d never be able to do by car or on foot. By bike, you can experience the Kochersberg in a different way, to the full

His favourite route? ” Between Neugartheim and Willgotheim. It offers a breathtaking panorama of the rolling countryside behind the Kochersberg

And for those who are still hesitating, she has a simple but powerful piece of advice: ” Try it! Hire a bike from the tourist office and give it a try. You’ll discover the freedom of movement, the lightness… If you try it, you’ll love it

    1. Why not get on your bike?

This summer, the Kochersberg is ready for you. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a Sunday stroller, the routes are ready, the services are in place, and the scenery is more beautiful than ever.
